Description
To enjoy your candles to their fullest, a certain amount of care is required. Keeping their wicks trimmed properly will help your candles burn fully and last longer. Specifically, your candle's wick should be trimmed after every 4 hours of burn time. Let the candle come to room temperature, then trim the wick to 1/8-inch before relighting. That length helps create complete combustion, which means less soot is formed while the candle is burning. This is where our Perfect Wick Trimmer comes in - place the bottom of the trimmer flush with the candle surface, rock the trimmer back so that its "elbow" rests on the surface, this keeps the trimmer at a 45-degree angle and helps ensure the cut is to the proper length. Simple! Enjoy your candles and their fragrances, then repeat again after every 4 hours of burn time.

Newer design, not improved!
I have had a Yankee Candle wick trimmer for several years. It was a silver/pewter color and still worked great; I actually gave it to my granddaughter when I purchased this one. I realize that it could be "stiffer" to use b/c it is new, but it also seems to be out of alignment within the cutting feature. I also prefer the older design of a smaller, rounder cutting edge. This one is harder to use in judging the wick cut spot, so that I often cut too short! Wish I still had my old one!

Ruined my candle wick
I got this candle wick trimmer for my birthday & it completely ruined the wick on my new candle. Didn’t cut the wick at all just frayed it completely. I’m surprised to see all these 5 star reviews I would not recommend, just use scissors.

Done using scissors!
I saw that a friend had one of these and I'm very adamant about keeping my wicks trimmed for maintaining the longevity of my candles, but I was using my good scissors. It's not easy to get a consistent trim with scissors. I received my Yankee Candle wick trimmet and have been 100 percent delighted with it! It's designed just perfectly! I'll never have to use my good scissors for trimming my wicks again.
